Victoria BC – A fleet-footed criminal, wanted for outstanding warrants and prohibited driving, was arrested after a short foot pursuit with VicPD officers on Saturday morning.
At approximately 3 a.m. on Saturday, a VicPD K9 officer was patrolling the Rock Bay neighbourhood when he noticed a vehicle driving around the block repeatedly. The officer followed the vehicle and called for backup as he planned to investigate.
As the officer was waiting for backup, the driver went to the parking lot of the Tim Horton’s restaurant on Gorge Road. There, the driver stopped and got out of the car. The officer immediately recognized him as someone he had dealt with previously. He also strongly suspected that he was a prohibited driver.
The second officer came on scene and, seeing that, the suspect fled on foot. The officers gave chase and the suspect was apprehended after a short foot pursuit.
As the investigation continued, it was revealed that the suspect was wanted on four outstanding warrants from another jurisdiction and was indeed a prohibited driver. The suspect was also breaching his court-ordered curfew and possessed a small quantity of methamphetamine.
The 35-year-old Saanich man was taken back to VicPD and was held for a tele-bail hearing later that day. Officers are recommending charges of obstructing a police officer and failing to comply with a recognizance in addition to the warrants.
