Victoria, BC – A visiting Alberta family who saw their young son’s bicycle stolen in the 900-block of Douglas Street last week will have a package waiting for them when they arrive home – the recovered bike.
Patrol and Community Services Division (CSD) officers began searching for the distinctive, blue and black, BMX-style bicycle after the child’s parents reported it stolen off their locked bike rack. A photo of the bike was posted to VicPD’s social media accounts as our officers searched for it.

After several hours of searching CSD officers were able to locate the missing bicycle. It was returned to them after being located by a resident of “Tent City”. By that time the family had departed, determined to continue their vacation, in spite of the theft.
Officers were able to confirm the recovered bicycle was indeed the one stolen from the family, who were now well on their way back home. Instead of having the family turn around and come all the way back to Victoria to pick up the bicycle, officers elected to ship the bicycle home.
“It was good police work led our officers to locate the bicycle,” CSD Inspector Scott McGregor said. “It’s a heartwarming thing for us to know that when that young man arrives home, his bicycle will there, waiting for him.”
The cost of shipping the bike was paid for by the Department.
