Victoria, BC – Officers are continuing to investigate after two suspects fled the scene of an assault, only to be involved in a motor vehicle collision moments later.
Officers were called to a business at the intersection of Douglas and View streets just after 11 p.m. last night for a report of an assault with a weapon. When officers arrived they found staff providing aid to the victim, who had been pepper-sprayed. While officers were in the initial stages of interviewing the victim and canvassing for witnesses, additional officers headed towards the scene to assist noted two persons running from the area. The officers then circled around in an attempt to interview these two persons and determine if they were connected to the assault.
Officers then observed a vehicle exit a parking lot in the 1700-block of Store Street at high speed and without its lights on. Moments later this vehicle collided with another vehicle at the intersection of Pembroke and Government streets. The two occupants, who resembled the two persons spotted running from the area in which the assault occurred, attempted to flee, but were taken into custody by officers. The occupants of the second vehicle involved in the collision were, luckily, uninjured.
The two suspects, a man and a woman, were transported to hospital to be medically cleared, before being returned to cells.
The investigation is on-going and investigators are seeking witnesses to the original assault, which is believed to have occurred in the area around the intersection of Douglas and View streets around 11 p.m. If you have any information about this incident, please call (250) 995-7654.
