Victoria, BC – Officers are investigating after an attempted child luring.

Officers were called just after 4 p.m. yesterday after a 12-year-old reported that she and her friend were approached by a man who tried to get her to go to a secluded part of the Cecelia Ravine Park.  The girls ran away to seek assistance from a parent. The girl was physically uninjured.

The Caucasian man is described as being 25 years old, over six feet tall, with dark brown, straight hair.  The man was wearing dark coloured ball cap, blue denim frayed shorts carrying a basketball. His shoes were Adidas black runners with three white stripes. It is believed that the man has a moustache and a light goatee.

Detectives do not believe this incident is connected with any other incident in the Victoria.

While the girls in this incident did everything right, as a reminder to parents and caregivers, it is important to talk to your children about never leaving with stranger and teaching them who the trusted adults are in their lives.  For more information visit: https://www.protectchildren.ca/pdfs/KIK_7RootSafetyStrategies_en.pdf
