Victoria, BC – Patrol officers arrested a man yesterday morning after he assaulted a staff member at a local shelter and led officers on a foot pursuit.
Shortly before 7:30 a.m. yesterday morning, Patrol officers were called to a community shelter in the 2900-block of Douglas Street for a report that a man was assaulting a staff member at that location. The man fled when officers arrived. The staff member suffered non-life-threatening injuries in the incident.
Patrol officers gave chase on foot and followed the suspect to the area of Nanaimo Street and Topaz Avenue where he attempted to hide in the back of a moving van. Officers located the man and took him into custody without further incident.
During the investigation officers learned that the suspect was the subject of conditions of an undertaking not to attend the shelter after assaulting a staff member at that location the previous week.
The man was transported to cells at VicPD where he was held to await court. The man faces recommended charges of assault causing bodily harm, uttering threats, and breach of an undertaking.
