Victoria, BC – Traffic will be disrupted, and we are deploying temporary CCTV cameras in response to both the Times Colonist 10K and the Khalsa Day Parade this Sunday as people gather to run and to celebrate.  

VicPD officers and staff will be working Sunday to help ensure that both the Times Colonist 10K and the Khalsa Day Parade are safe and family-friendly events. Part of that work means that, as with previous events, we will be deploying our temporary, monitored CCTV cameras in support of our operations to ensure public safety.  

The deployment of these cameras is in keeping with both provincial and federal privacy laws. Temporary signs have been put up in the event areas to ensure that the public is aware, and the cameras will be taken down once the events have concluded. There are significant road closures planned for both events.  

Times Colonist 10K  

Initial road closures will begin on Belleville Street between Government and Menzies streets on Saturday, April 29 at noon to facilitate race set-up. These closures will remain in effect until 3 pm on Sunday.  

Additional road closures on Belleville Street between Menzies and Oswego streets, Government Street between Belleville and Superior streets and Menzies Street between Belleville and Quebec streets will all be closed to traffic from around 3 am Sunday and will remain closed until 3 pm Sunday. Some roads in the area will be opened earlier in the day as officers and race organizers work to limit traffic disruptions as much as possible while keeping participants and spectators safe.  

Roads will be closed along the wider race route from approximately 8 am to noon on race day. A full map of the race route along which road closures will occur is below. Parking will also be temporarily prohibited in some areas along the race route.

Khalsa Day Parade Returns 

Sunday also sees the return of the Khalsa Day parade in Victoria’s Burnside Gorge neighbourhood. This event attracts many participants, and significant traffic disruptions are likely to occur in the area.  

Officers and parade organizers are working together to minimize traffic disruptions while keeping performers and spectators safe. The parade will take place from 10:30 am to 1:30 pm on Sunday, April 30.  

The parade route will proceed from Cecelia Road to Burnside Road, moving down Alpha Street, Douglas Street, Finlayson Street, and Jutland Road before returning to Cecelia Road. The parade will stop for approximately 20 minutes on Finlayson Street between Douglas Street and Burnside Road for performances. The parade will conclude at 1:30 pm, and the festival will continue at the Gurdwara Singh. All are welcome to join the Khalsa Day parade and festival.
