Victoria, BC – VicPD has published and presented the 2023 Q4 Community Safety Report Cards (CSRC) for Victoria and Esquimalt.
On February 15, Chief Del Manak presented the 2023 Q4 CSRC to Victoria City Council, wrapping up the Q4 reporting period. The 2023 Q4 CSRC for Esquimalt was presented on February 12.
Both reports can be accessed on Open VicPD, the one-stop hub for information about the Victoria Police Department.
Included in the fourth quarter is our Annual Summary, which provides a snapshot of achievements under our Strategic Plan to support community safety, enhance public trust, and achieve organizational excellence. Notable this year is the impact from our front-line reorganization.
A key focus of our Strategic Plan was recruiting and retention efforts, including significant changes to ensure the mental health and wellness of our officers. The impact of this is seen through a 20 per cent increase to our deployable strength since 2021 (percentage of our officers fully deployable to policing duties), marking a return to pre-pandemic levels. In 2023, we welcomed 16 new officers and seven experienced officers to the VicPD family.
Additionally, our VicPD Volunteers and Reserve Constables contributed close to 15,000 volunteer hours in 2023; a year-over-year increase of 3,500 hours. These robust programs continue to play a pivotal role in supporting our vision of A Safer Community Together, while also providing a natural progression towards a career in law enforcement.
The report cards also provide a summary of notable files, crime prevention efforts and community engagement activities in the City and Township from October 1 to December 31, 2023.
