Victoria, B.C. – Today, VicPD is proud to share the results of our 2025 Community Survey.
The annual VicPD Community Survey gathers public feedback on important issues, including crime levels and overall satisfaction with our services.
This year's community survey included 1,050 residents and businesses from the City of Victoria and the Township of Esquimalt. Overall, respondents indicated they are happy with VicPD, with 84 per cent of residents reporting that they are satisfied or very satisfied.

2025 VicPD Community Survey Results
“Each year, our VicPD Community Survey helps us understand what matters the most to you, your needs, concerns and priorities as residents and business owners in Victoria and Esquimalt,” says Chief Del Manak. “As our community grows and changes, we stay committed to improving the way we serve you. Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts. Your feedback helps us better support safety in your neighbourhood and by working together, we can make our communities stronger.”
Other key changes this year include a sharp increase in feelings of safety in downtown Victoria, especially during the day, with 70 per cent of respondents reporting feeling safe, up from 59 per cent last year. The 2025 survey also showed fewer people feeling that crime has increased, or reporting being a victim of crime than in the past five years.
“In response to feelings of safety and requests for more visibility, we have made a concentrated effort over the past few years to increase our work in the downtown core, including proactive connections with business owners through Project Downtown Connect, integrating Bike and Beat officers into regular Patrol shifts, adding additional officers during the busy summer months, and anti-shoplifting projects like Project Lifter. There’s still work to do, but I’m happy to see the increase of feelings of safety in the downtown core in this year’s survey,” says Chief Del Manak. “The recently announced Police and Community Together initiative is another way we’re working to respond to requests for more positive, proactive police interactions, and we hope to see even stronger results next year.”
Open drug use, homelessness, traffic, and mental health continue to be the areas of highest concern, and respondents indicated they’d like to see increased police visibility, proactive crime prevention efforts, and hiring more officers to address these issues. VicPD was recently authorized to hire an additional nine officers to help address concerns in the City of Victoria.
As in previous years, all the survey results and associated materials are posted on the OpenVicPD portal on our website: Community Survey - VicPD.ca
