Victoria BC – Sunday marks the 28th anniversary of Michael Dunahee’s disappearance.
At around 12:30 p.m. on March 24, 1991 Michael Dunahee, then 4 years old, disappeared from the area of the Blanshard School playground, just a short distance away from his family. Many families and spectators were in the area at the time for a touch football game. A massive search was launched for Michael, involving hundreds of volunteers and police from multiple agencies but no sign of Michael was ever found. This became the largest investigation in VicPD history and remains one of the largest missing child investigations in Canada.
“We continue to receive and investigate new tips and are always exploring new advancements in forensics and technology” said Detective Sgt. Michelle Robertson of the Historical Case Review Section. “Over the years many people in our community, including the investigators, have been personally and profoundly affected by this case. So many people have come forward and worked to help our officers, for which we’re very grateful.” Investigators strongly believe that there is still someone out there that has first-hand information about what happened to Michael on March 24, 1991 and can tell us about his whereabouts. We urge you to come forward and help us resolve this case for Michael’s family and our community.

This Sunday, the Annual Michael Dunahee 5km Fun Run and Walk is occurring at the Esquimalt Recreation Centre starting at 9:30 a.m. Chief Manak will be delivering some remarks and hundreds of people are expected.
