Victoria, BC- Using critical incident de-escalation techniques, Patrol officers arrested a woman with a replica handgun in the 1400-block of Government Street just before 6 p.m. last night.

Officers were called when a passerby spotted a woman in an alley with what appeared to be a black handgun. When Patrol officers arrived, they spotted the suspect and observed her placing the handgun into her purse. Officers issued voice commands to the suspect from behind cover. The suspect was initially non-compliant, refusing to come out and give herself up or put down her purse.

The Patrol officers then utilized their critical incident de-escalation training to engage with the suspect. After a short period of time, the woman gave herself up to officers and was arrested without further incident.

A black replica firearm was seized.

This file remains under investigation.
