Victoria, BC – Despite the best efforts of bystanders, VicPD Community Services Division officers, BC Emergency Health Service Paramedics and Victoria Fire Department firefighters, a man has died of injuries sustained in a fire.

Officers were called to the 600-block of Gorge Road East shortly after noon today. When they arrived, they discovered the victim in immediate need of assistance, being helped by bystanders. Officers helped extinguish the fire with the help of BC Emergency Health Service Paramedics and Victoria Fire Department firefighters and then offered first aid. The man was rushed to hospital with life-threatening injuries. He succumbed to his injuries a short while later.

We are working with our partners from the Victoria Fire Department and the BC Coroners Service on this file. It remains under investigation and further details will be released at a later time, pending notification of the man’s next of kin.
