Victoria, BC– Victoria Police can confirm that the deceased man that was located in the Gorge Waterway yesterday afternoon is Duncan Pucker.

Our thoughts go out to Duncan’s family during this very difficult time.

Duncan Pucker was reported missing to Saanich Police on February 6th, 2018. Through their investigation they determined that Duncan was last seen in Victoria on February 4th, 2018. On February 7th, 2018, our investigators assumed jurisdiction at that point with our Patrol Division, and then our Investigative Services Division detectives in the Major Crime Unit. They worked in conjunction with our Missing Person Coordinator in efforts to locate him.

Exhaustive searches of the Gorge Waterway and surrounding areas were completed with assistance and appreciation of the Saanich Police Dive Unit, Joint Rescue Coordination Centre, Canadian Coast Guard Operations and the crew of the Coast Guard ship CCGS Bartlett, Victoria Fire Department and Metchosin Ground Search and Rescue.

Duncan was located February 27th, 2018 by a group of paddlers in the Gorge Waterway.  The BC Coroners Service will continue to investigate the cause of his death as foul play is not suspected.

Our investigators would not have been able to provide such a robust and concerted investigation without the cooperation of our key partners and they want to extend their thanks to all those who aided in the search.

Duncan’s family shared the following statement.

“Duncan was a much loved and happy young man. He will be missed greatly. We are grateful for the efforts of the Victoria Police and all others who participated in the search for Duncan.”

His family has asked for privacy at this time.
