Victoria, BC – A Victoria man is in custody for breaching court-ordered conditions after an incident which prompted a deployment by the Greater Victoria Emergency Response Team (GVERT).

An officer first responded to a report of two persons who appeared to be breaking into vehicles in the 2800-block of Irma Street around 1:00 a.m. this morning. The responding officer approached two suspects and discovered one was breaching conditions. While the officer spoke with the other individual, the second fled to a nearby residence and barricaded himself inside.

The Greater Victoria Emergency Response Team (GVERT) was deployed to the scene as well as our negotiators and other resources. After several hours of attempts to negotiate his surrender, distraction devices was used which prompted the man to exit and give himself up to police. Nearby residents will likely have heard the loud “bangs” of the devices being used. The man was taken into custody without further incident. No one was injured in the incident.

The man has been held in custody pending court.
