Victoria, BC – A Victoria man is in custody and has been taken to hospital to be assessed after an hours-long negotiation.

Officers were called to a residence in the 500-block of Cecelia Road around 8 a.m. this morning. Based on information from the scene, officers believed the man may be armed or have access to weapons in the residence. The Greater Victoria Emergency Response Team (GVERT) was activated along with our crisis negotiators and other members of our team. Nearby streets were closed to pedestrian and vehicle traffic and nearby residents advised to stay in their homes out of an abundance of caution.

Our specially-trained negotiators worked with the man to resolve the situation. The man exited the residence and gave himself over to officers to be into custody without further incident just before 2:30 p.m. this afternoon. He was brought to hospital for assessment.

Our officers are now working to ensure the residence and surrounding area are safe and that any weapons are recovered. Our investigation into this incident is ongoing at this time.
