Victoria, BC – One man is facing multiple charges after being taken into custody by a quick-thinking off duty police officer.

Just before 7:30 p.m. last night, an off-duty VicPD officer witnessed a hit and run collision involving an SUV colliding with a motorcycle. The SUV failed to stop after the collision. The officer followed the suspect vehicle until it came to a stop in the Blanshard and Hillside Avenue area. With the help of a bystander, the off-duty officer was able to restrain the male driver and wait for uniformed members to attend.

Further investigation revealed that the SUV driver was believed to be impaired by drugs.

The motorcycle rider suffered non-life threatening injuries. Both the suspect driver and off-duty police officer were not hurt.

The SUV driver was held in custody and police are recommending 4 charges including dangerous driving, assault with a weapon, failure to remain at the scene of an accident and impaired driving.
