Victoria BC –  VicPD’s online crime reporting system is being well-used by the community this year, so much so that VicPD is looking to free up hundreds of hours of officer and call-taker time while giving citizens a quick and efficient means to report crime.

Online reporting was launched in 2008 and the use of this program has been steadily growing since. The system gives residents of Victoria and Esquimalt another option, in addition to calling VicPD or reporting the crime in person, to report crimes like theft, mischief and fraud where no suspect information is known, along with lost property, found bicycles and driving complaints.   2014 looks to be a banner year with the program seeing almost 700 reports and on track to take over 1000 in 2014.

Online reporting is but one of a myriad of ways to talk to VicPD. Our Communications Centre staff can answer your call and dispatch an officer, you can chat with one of the dozens of beat or bike officers who patrol downtown Victoria, head into the Esquimalt Public safety building or VicPD headquarters or contact us through any of our social networks or mobileVicPD.

“We’re seeing that online reporting is not only giving the citizens of Victoria and Esquimalt a timely and efficient way to report non-emergency crimes, but it is allowing our officers and staff to proactively work on other community concerns,” said Darlene Perry, Director of Information Management with VicPD.

Online reporting can be accessed on MobileVicPD, VicPD’s mobile app, or online at VicPD.ca
