VicPD Traffic and the CRD Integrated Road Safety Unit Team up to Save Lives during Operation Impact
Victoria BC – VicPD and the Capital Regional District Integrated Road Safety Unit are teaming up October 10-13 and working together for Operation Impact, a national campaign to make Canada’s roads the safest in the world.
This national campaign is designed as an education and enforcement initiative aimed at reminding people that road safety is all of our responsibilities. The two traffic units, one from VicPD and one from CRD IRSU will be focusing on the four top behaviours that put all road users at risk: Impaired driving, seatbelt use and aggressive and distracted driving.
Distracted driving is now the second leading cause of serious injury and deadly collisions on B.C.’s roadway. Both VicPD and CRD IRSU are committed to ensuring safety on our roadways.
“I’m very proud of both VicPD and CRD IRSU in doing their part in creating safer roads for everyone in the CRD,” said Deputy Chief Del Manak, “Our officers can’t do this alone though. Please, put down your phone, buckle your seatbelt and remember to plan a safe ride home. Let’s make this weekend, and every day, collision free.”
Operation Impact is sponsored by the Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police (CACP) and member agencies of the CACP Traffic Committee from across Canada in support of Canada’s Road Safety Strategy 2015, which has a goal of making Canada’s roads the safest in the world by 2015
