How we use temporary CCTV cameras to help keep everyone safe at events
We deploy temporary monitored CCTV cameras in support of our operations to ensure public safety during many public events throughout the year. These events include Canada Day festivities, Symphony Splash and the Tour de Victoria, among others.
While there is often no information indicating a known threat to a particular event, public gatherings have been the targets of past attacks world-wide. The deployment of these cameras is part of our operations to help keep these events fun, safe and family-friendly. In addition to enhancing security, previous deployments of these cameras have helped locate lost children and seniors at large-scale public events and have provided for effective coordination in responding to medical events.
As always, we deploy these temporarily placed, monitored cameras in public spaces in accordance with B.C. and national privacy legislation. Schedule permitting, the cameras are put up in the two days before and are taken down a short time after each event. We have added signage in the event areas to ensure that everyone is aware that these cameras are in place.
We welcome your feedback on our use of these temporary, monitored CCTV cameras. If you have questions or concerns about our temporary CCTV camera deployment, please email [email protected]
