Compliments

The members of the Victoria Police Department are committed and dedicated to protecting and serving the citizens of Victoria and Esquimalt. They are committed to making our communities safer by providing service to its citizens through integrity, professionalism, accountability, trust and respect.  The well-being of citizens and members is always a priority.

If you have had a positive experience with a member of the Victoria Police Department or have recently observed a member of the Victoria Police Department who you feel is worthy of a compliment, we would like to hear from you. We are extremely proud of our members and your comments are greatly appreciated.

Complaints

Anyone who has concerns about the actions or conduct of a VicPD police officer, the service provided by VicPD, or the policies guiding VicPD officers, may file a complaint. The Provincial Office of the Police Complaint Commissioner (OPCC) explains the complaint process in the following brochure:

A complaint may be resolved by means of a formal investigation or an informal resolution. Alternatively, a complainant may withdraw his/her complaint or the Police Complaint Commissioner may decide to discontinue an investigation. Questions and Concerns

If you simply want the Victoria Police Department and the OPCC to know about your concerns, but do not wish to participate in the formal complaint process, you may file a Questions or Concern directly with us.  Your Question or Concern will be accepted by the Victoria Police Department and shared with the OPCC. Complaints

A complaint may be resolved by means of a formal investigation (Division 3 of the Police Act “Process Respecting Alleged Misconduct”) or by other means (Division 4 of the Police Act “Resolution of Complaints by Mediation or Other Informal Means”). A complaint must be made within the 12-month period beginning on the date of the conduct giving rise to the complaint. The Police Complaint Commissioner may extend the time limit for making a complaint if the Police Complaint Commissioner considers that there are good reasons for doing so and it is not contrary to the public interest.
