Victoria, BC – VicPD is a proud supporter of the fourth annual National Prescription Drug Drop-Off Day.

On May 21, we are asking people to dispose of their unused, unwanted, or expired prescription and non-prescription drugs at their local drugstore. According to the Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police (CACP), Canada is the world’s second largest per capita consumer of prescription opioids after the United States. We want to ensure that we dispose of prescription and non-prescription drugs in a way to avoid uses that are not for medical purposes. Doing so also limits the negative environmental impacts of flushing prescription and non-prescription drugs down our drains.

It is important to remember that if you are going to drop off your prescription or non-prescription drugs, put them in a Ziploc bag to protect personal information usually contained on pill bottles.

“I encourage everybody who has prescription or non-prescription drugs that are expired, unused, or unwanted to dispose of them in a responsible way,” Acting Chief Del Manak said. “I hope that people will take this opportunity to drop these drugs off at their local pharmacy.”
