Victoria, BC – VicPD Major Crime investigators continue their investigation into a suspicious fire at Toys “R” Us at Mayfair Mall on April 27.

Investigators would like to thank the numerous witnesses who have come forward to speak with investigators. There are still, however, several witnesses with whom police have yet to speak.  Pictures of these potential witnesses are attached.

Investigators would like to speak with these people as well as anybody who was in the Toys “R” Us at Mayfair Mall 1 pm and 2 pm on Wednesday, April 27. “In many cases, people might observe something that was not an important detail to them,” says Detective Constable Ian Hynes.  “ It can, however, be the one piece of information we need to bring closure to a file.”

On April 27, VicPD and the Victoria Fire Department attended Toys “R” Us shortly after 2 p.m. for the report of a fire. Upon arrival, police and the fire department were able to evacuate the mall and nobody was injured although there was significant damage to the store. Victoria Police Major Crime Detectives and the Victoria Fire Department Investigator are continuing to actively investigate the suspicious fire.

VicPD would also like to acknowledge the work of Toys “R” Us staff, one of whom was a recipient of a VicPD Civic Service Award yesterday, who assisted in putting out the fire as well as the safe evacuation of  all customers involved.

If you recognize any of these witnesses shown, or you were in Toys “R” Us between 1 p.m. – 2 p.m. on Wednesday April 27, please call the Victoria Police Department non-emergency line at (250)995-7654 and let them know that you are phoning regarding the Toys “R” Us fire.
