The Victoria Police Department offers exceptional opportunities for employment outside of becoming a police officer. Our civilian staff are committed professionals with meaningful careers. There are over 80 civilians employed at VicPD, made up of unionized workers under CUPE local 50, and exempt staff. We also have numerous opportunities through our Volunteer Program.

Civilian Position Examples
Civilian opportunities exist within areas such as information technology, information/records management, investigative services, finance, and support for operations. A few of these unique positions include:
Disclosure Clerk: Within our Investigative Services Division, our Disclosures Clerks provide specialized, dedicated support to our lead police investigators accountable for disclosure as well as prosecutorial reports to Crown Counsel.
Records Specialist: Within our Information Management Division, our Records Specialists are the first point of contact for records services and work as collaborative team within the Patrol Watches administering records management support and solutions.
Senior Information Access Analyst: Within the Legal / Executive Services Division, the Senior Information Access Analyst performs functions that support VicPD’s compliances with the access to information provisions of The Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FIPPA) and for administration of the Legal Services Section.
Senior Systems Analyst / Developer: Within our Information Technology Division, the Senior Systems Analyst / Developers are responsible for analysis, design, development, implementation and support of applications and databases in accordance with the needs of the Department, managing software implementation and development projects.

Yes, each Division is allocated a training budget for Civilian staff to take courses, attend conferences etc. to stay current and advance their career.
Our benefit programs support our staff with the unique challenges of working in policing. Yes, there is a fully equipped fitness facility on-site within VicPD headquarters that is available for all employees to use free of charge.
The large majority of our civilian employees are unionized and members of CUPE Local 50. There is a smaller group of civilians who are considered Exempt (non-unionized) staff.
Most of our civilian positions are dayshift only. Some are Monday through Friday, others on a dayshift rotational basis. There are positions within our Records Section (Records Specialists) that require our employee to work days and nights on a rotating basis.
