Victoria BC – Last night at the VicPD Retirement and Recognition ceremony, VicPD bid farewell to eight senior members from the department who are retiring at the end of the month.

The eight members have served the communities of Victoria and Esquimalt as part of VicPD with distinction. Many of the officers have come to VicPD from other departments throughout Canada including the Ottawa Police Service, Vancouver Police Department and the RCMP.

The ceremony, jointly hosted by the Victoria Police Mutual Benefit Association, the Victoria City Police Union, and VicPD, recognized and thanked these officers for years of dedicated service.

The officers range in rank from Constable to Inspector and their 200 years of combined policing experience will be missed.

“Although I have only been here for the final year of these members’ careers, it has been an honour to work with each of them,” said VicPD Chief Constable Frank Elsner. “I wish all of these officers the best of luck in retirement.”

The retiring officers are:

  • Inspector John Craig, Officer in Charge of Investigative Services Division
  • Inspector Brian Fox, Officer in Charge of Operational Support Division
  • Detective Sergeant John Ayers, Financial Crimes Section
  • Sergeant Gary Jones, Recruiting Sergeant, Human Resources Division
  • Sergeant Keith Lewis, Administrative Sergeant, Executive Services Division
  • Detective Constable Tom Brown, Investigative Services Division
  • Detective Constable Don Potter, Investigative Services Division
  • Detective Constable Lori Lumley, Investigative Services Division

While these retirements represent decades of experience leaving VicPD, the Human Resources Division is always accepting applications from qualified individuals to join the department.  Please check out VicPD.ca for recruiting information and what you can expect from a career with VicPD.
