File #     15-50946

Victoria, BC – VicPD Missing Persons investigators are working with U.S. law enforcement agencies, including the Port Angeles Police Department, as part of our efforts to find Harold Backer.

Our investigation has revealed that a man matching Harold’s description left Victoria on the Coho ferry on November 3rd. VicPD investigators contacted Port Angeles Police, who have been vital in our efforts to locate him.

“Both through our efforts and the fantastic support from our U.S. law enforcement partners, such as the Port Angeles Police Department, we continue to receive tips  that we’re working with now,” VicPD Detective Sgt. Kris Rice said. “Tips are important in a missing persons file like this and sometimes it is the smallest detail that helps. It could be something that appears insignificant that helps us bring Harold safely home to his family.”

Harold Backer has been missing since November 3rd. He is described as a 52-year-old Caucasian man standing six feet, three inches tall with a medium build. His eyes are green and he has greying hair. A photo of Harold is attached.

Harold is believed to be wearing a red cycling jersey, black riding pants, possibly carrying a black backpack and could be riding his black Cannondale road bike.  A photo of a similar bike is attached.

If you see Harold, you are asked to call 911. If you have any information on his whereabouts, you are asked to call (250) 995-7654.
