Listen: VicPD Looking to Speak to Victim of Robbery

Victoria BC – VicPD investigators are hoping to speak to the victim, and witnesses, of a ‘bag-snatching’ type robbery that occurred late yesterday afternoon.

Officers were called to the 500-block of Belleville Street at approximately 3 p.m. by a member of the Victoria Fire Department who noticed a suspicious man being chased by a number of others. The member of the Fire Department had also heard an elderly man yelling “stop him, he has my bag.”

A good description of the suspect was given by the member and it was aired over the police radio. A little over an hour later VicPD Beat officers located a man matching that description near Douglas and Johnson streets.

The 23-year-old man of no fixed address was detained as part of the investigation. He was later arrested for failing to comply with a probation order, obstruction of a police officer and possession of stolen property. The link to the earlier robbery is still being investigated.

As the robbery investigation is ongoing, officers are hoping the victim or witnesses can come forward to shed some light on what occurred. Anyone with information, or who may have been involved, is asked to call the Victoria Police Department at 250-995-7654.
