Listen: VicPD Looking for Witnesses to Hit and Run of Loss Prevention Officer

Victoria BC – VicPD Traffic officers are looking for the public’s help in locating a vehicle and driver involved in a hit and run of a loss prevention officer yesterday.

Officers were called to the Mayfair Shopping Centre, at approximately 3 p.m., for a report that a loss prevention officer, who was chasing a suspect, had been hit by the car the suspect was using to get away.

The loss prevention officer had given chase to the man who stole an item from the Bay store. The suspect ran to his vehicle as the loss prevention officer gave chase. Once the suspect entered the car and started to drive it in reverse, the victim opened the passenger door and was struck by the car. The victim was knocked to the ground and suffered non-life threatening injuries.

The suspect then reversed the car the entire way out of the parking lot and on to Finlayson Street.

Officers are hoping any witnesses will come forward. Officers are specifically looking for the license plate of the vehicle and the identification of the suspect.

The car was described as an early model black Honda Civic, and the suspect is described as a Caucasian man in his early 20’s. He was described as having an athletic build and short hair. At the time of the incident he was wearing a black baseball cap and a black “Diesel” t shirt with gold lettering.

Anyone with information is asked to please contact VicPD on the non-emergency line at 250-995-7654.
