File # 14-43255Date: Thursday, September 25, 2014Listen: VicPD Investigating Collision involving Cyclist and Police CarVictoria BC – VicPD Traffic section is investigating an early morning collision involving a police vehicle and a cyclist. At approximately 7 a.m. this morning, a VicPD officer was leaving headquarters in his marked police car and was driving northbound through the Save-on-Foods Memorial Centre parking lot when a westbound cyclist collided with the vehicle.The impact was forceful enough to throw the cyclist from his bike and cause damage to the police car. BC Ambulance service was immediately called and transported the man to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.The area was closed to traffic for some of the morning and the investigation continues. As with an investigation involving an officer and potential serious injury to a third party the Independent Investigations Office was immediately notified and Office of the Police Complaints Commissioner has been made aware as required by legislation.
