Victoria BC – A sharp-eyed citizen and a fleet-footed VicPD officer are being credited with nabbing a well-known property thief earlier this week.

At approximately 7 p.m. on Sunday, officers were called to the 900-block of Yates Street after the caller spotted her boyfriend’s stolen bike.  She had followed the man on the bike from the 900-block of Pandora Avenue.

When officers arrived on scene, the caller relayed a detailed description of the suspect. As the officer and caller were talking, the suspect came out of a store and hopped on the bike. As he started to ride away, the officer called out to him, instructing him to stop. Unfortunately for the suspect, he did not heed the words of the officer and tried to ride away.

The officer gave chase and caught up to the suspect and was quickly removed from the bike and arrested.

The suspect was brought back to VicPD headquarters and the bike was returned to its rightful owner.

Allan Saari, a 46-year-old Victoria man, was charged with possession of stolen property under $5000 and breaching of his previous court orders.
