VicPD investigators are recommending several charges against a 22-year old man after a lengthy standoff.

Yesterday afternoon just after 2:30 p.m., officers attended a business in the 400-block of Gorge Road East after receiving a call regarding a man who was refusing to leave the bathroom. When police arrived, they were confronted by an agitated man holding a weapon who attempted to injure the attending officers. The man, who was in the bathroom, refused to come out for police despite repeated attempts to have him cooperate.

In addition to VicPD Patrol officers, our K9 Section, the Victoria Fire Department, the BC Ambulance service, and the Greater Victoria Emergency Response Team (GVERT), including crisis negotiators, responded to the call. After a lengthy standoff, police were able to take the man into custody. Police are recommending charges of assaulting a police officer with a weapon, mischief, and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

The man, who is of no fixed address, is set to have a telebail hearing today.
