Victoria, BC – VicPD investigators are recommending several charges against three people after an arrest turned violent.

 

VicPD patrol officers attended the 400-block of Johnson Street just before 6 p.m. last night after the report of an assault in progress.  Upon arrival, the officer placed one man in custody but the two other people involved became hostile and violent toward the lone officer. Multiple other police units attended the scene to provide assistance. The original responding officer suffered non-life threatening injuries, and was transported to hospital where he was later released.

 

Through the course of the arrest of the three people, two other officers were also injured, both suffering non-life threatening injuries. Those officers were treated at hospital and later released. Another officer received injuries attempting to assist the original officer.

 

One man was transported to hospital with non-life threatening injuries and subsequently transported back to VicPD cells. Once at cells, the man assaulted a jail staff member. The jail staff member was transported to hospital and later released.

 

Police are recommending:

– one count of assaulting a police officer against a 28-year-old Victoria woman;

– three counts of assaulting a police officer and one count of assault causing bodily harm of a police officer against a 25-year-old Esquimalt man; and

– one count of assaulting a police officer and one count of causing a disturbance against a 31-year-old Saanich man.

 The 28-year-old woman and 31-year-old man were both released this morning from custody. The 25-year-old man remains in custody and his next court appearance is on Oct 24th.
