Victoria, BC – VicPD investigators are looking to speak to witnesses after an elderly Victoria man died after being taken to hospital with a head injury.

On December 15th, just before 6:30 p.m., the man was located in the parking lot of a car dealership in the 1000-block of Yates Street. Employees of the dealership reported being directed to the man lying prone on the ground by an as-of-yet unidentified witness. The employees provided medical aid and called for an ambulance.

Investigators were called to assist in identifying the elderly man, who had become unconscious before being able to speak with medical staff.

During his treatment, medical staff alerted investigators to the man’s injuries, which met the threshold to warrant further investigation. Sadly, the man succumbed to his injuries on December 17th, without regaining consciousness. Investigators have since identified him, but are withholding his name pending notification of his next of kin.

While our investigation has not pointed to suggestions of foul play, investigators are looking to speak with the witness who alerted dealership staff to the elderly male as well as witnesses who may have been in or around the area of the 1000-block of Yates Street between 5:30 and 6:30 p.m. on December 15th. Please call our non-emergency line at (250) 995-7654. To report what you know anonymously, please call Greater Victoria Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
