Victoria, BC – An officer is recovering after being assaulted with a weapon after responding to an unwanted person call early Sunday morning.

The officer responded to a call for an unwanted person at a residence in the 1100-block of Lyall Street in Esquimalt just after 4:00 am on Sunday, November 12th. The resident had discovered a man on her back porch who appeared to be attempting to get into the residence and called 911. The officer arrived and discovered the man at the back door of the residence.

When the officer approached the man, he was attacked and a physical struggle ensued. During the struggle, the officer was assaulted and then assaulted with a weapon. He received non-life-threatening injuries, but was able to restrain the suspect. Other officers arrived a short time later and helped take the suspect into custody.

The officer was transported to hospital to be treated for his injuries. The suspect was transported to cells.

The suspect, an Esquimalt man, was tele-bailed on charges of assaulting an officer and assaulting an officer with a weapon. Our officer is recovering.
