Victoria BC– Patrol officers are pointing to the efforts of witnesses as key to locating a suspect in a hit and run that occurred earlier today.

An officer was called to the intersection of Oak Bay Avenue and Richmond Road just after 12:00pm today. Upon arrival, the attending officer noted several people waiting for her, while BC Ambulance paramedics were already treating the victim. The witnesses and the victim reported that the victim had been  struck by the vehicle while she was in the crosswalk at the intersection. The vehicle then departed the scene, leaving the 62-year-old woman in the street.

Witnesses to the collision then sprung into action, bringing comfort to the victim, calling 911, and collecting key information about the driver and the vehicle. Despite the frigid temperature, these witnesses waited on scene for some time to ensure that our officer had all the information necessary to locate the vehicle and the driver. The witnesses’ actions were vital in locating the driver.

A short time later, officers located the driver. The 18-year-old woman was issued a ticket for failing to remain at the scene of an accident with a $368 fine.
