Victoria, BC– A Victoria man is in custody after being arrested, at gunpoint, by Patrol officers outside of Victoria High School.

Patrol officers were called to the square at the intersection of Gladstone Avenue and Fernwood Road just before 11am this morning. A teacher had spoken with a man who was allegedly consuming drugs on the stairs that lead into Victoria High School grounds. The man allegedly confronted the teacher and brandished a knife. As officers made their way to the area the man left the scene and entered a nearby business. The teacher was not physically injured.

When officers arrived, the man was leaving the business. The man initially refused to obey officers’ commands to show his hands and began reaching for something behind his back. Officers drew their service pistols and, after several moments, were able to de-escalate the incident and take the man into custody without further incident.

This incident is under investigation at this time. Further details, including information on recommended charges will be released as we are able to share it.
