A Patrol officer was transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries after being hurt in an arrest of an assault suspect yesterday.

Patrol officers were called to the 1200-block of Douglas Street just before 2pm yesterday for a report of a conflict between two men in a business that had turned into a physical altercation. One of the two men left the scene prior to officers’ arrival. Officers spoke with one of the men and began searching the nearby area for the second man who was alleged to be the instigator.

A short time later officers located the second man nearby. The two officers stopped the man and, after a brief discussion, determined that he was arrestable for assault.  The man resisted arrest and began to fight with the officers.  The officers requested back-up and worked to take the man into custody during which time one officer was injured. The officers were able to complete the arrest only when another police officer arrived on scene to assist.

Both the man and the officer suffered non-life-threatening injuries during the arrest and both were transported to hospital.

This incident remains under investigation.
