Victoria, BC – Patrol officers are recommending a Victoria woman remain in custody pending a mental health evaluation after arresting her for a series of incidents Wednesday night, including one in which she brandished a knife.
Patrol officers were called to the 1100-block of Wharf Street just after 10:30 p.m. Wednesday night for a report that a woman had brandished a knife at a man. Officers located the victim, who, while physically uninjured, was shaken by what had occurred. The woman was reportedly throwing traffic cones into the roadway and in front of vehicles and after a near miss, the man asked her to stop. That’s when she brandished the knife and closed in on him. He fled and called police. The man and woman were not known to each other.
Patrol officers located the woman nearby and took her into custody at gunpoint. During the course of the investigation, officers recovered a knife and learned that the woman was involved in a mischief at a business in the 500-block of Yates Street that resulted in damage to the business.
The woman was held in custody, and is facing recommended charges of assault with a weapon, and mischief. Officers are also recommending the woman be held pending a mental health evaluation and as well as a series of conditions, including not to possess knives.
