Victoria, BC –Two Patrol officers received non-life-threatening injuries during an arrest Sunday morning.

Officers were called to the intersection of Blanshard Street and Burdett Avenue just after 6:00 a.m. on Sunday, July 14th for a call about a man acting erratically. The caller reported that a man was jumping on vehicles’ hoods and had attempted to enter a City of Victoria Public Works vehicle. When officers arrived, the man began to attempt to climb on the officers’ patrol vehicle.

Officers exited their vehicle and began to work to calm the man and resolve the situation using Crisis Intervention and De-escalation (CID) techniques. The CID techniques were unsuccessful and the man began to fight with officers. Officers then worked to arrest him.

During the struggle officers deployed a conducted energy weapon which had no effect. Eventually officers were able to successfully take the man into custody. Both officers sustained non-life-threatening injuries during the arrest.

The man was transported to hospital where he was held for treatment for mental health concerns. He did not require medical treatment for physical injury. Both officers were able to return to duty.
