Victoria, BC – Patrol officers took a man into custody at gunpoint last night after the man allegedly assaulted two people with a knife.

Patrol officers were called to the 900-block of Pandora Avenue just after 7 p.m. for a report that a man had assaulted two people with a knife. When Patrol officers arrived they located two victims and several witnesses. One of the assaults was captured by a security camera, which provided officers with a clear suspect identification and clothing description.

A short time later, a Patrol officer searching the area for the suspect located him with two other persons in a park in the 1000-block of Opal Avenue. When the officer moved to stop the suspect, he began to walk away. The officer issued voice commands for the suspect to stop. The suspect refused and turned to face the Patrol officer. Knowing the suspect had been armed and was wanted for assaulting two people with a knife the Patrol officer drew his service weapon and ordered the suspect to the ground. The suspect complied with these commands at this point and was held at gun point  until additional officers arrived and took him into custody.

No one required medical treatment for physical injuries in the incident.

The suspect was transported to cells where he was held for morning court. Recommended charges include assault, assault with a weapon and uttering threats. He is considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
