Victoria, BC – Patrol officers have reunited a 4-year-old boy with his family after he snuck out a window and wandered away from home yesterday morning.

At approximately 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 1st, Patrol officers were called to the 800-block of Hillside Avenue after sharp-eyed citizens located a 4-year-old boy walking alone in the area. The citizens provided the boy with a sweater to ensure that he was warm and waited with him until officers arrived.

The officers spoke with the boy and determined that he has special needs. Working together, the boy was able to navigate officers back to his home, and to his family. The officers learned that the boy had snuck out a window while his family was asleep. They further discovered that a missing wooden dowel was required to secure the window.

Due to COVID-19 concerns, the boy’s family had not attended the hardware store for the missing dowel. To ensure the boy’s safety and to alleviate the family’s concerns, the officers took on the task of securing the window. They measured the window, attended the hardware store, purchased a dowel and a padlock, and then returned to the residence and secured the window.

The officers determined that the boy’s outing was the result of an unfortunate series of events and that no one was at fault.
