Victoria, BC – A man is in custody facing charges and has been served a violation ticket under the COVID-19 Related Measures Act (CRMA) after an altercation this morning.
Patrol officers were called to a grocery store in the 900-block of Yates Street just after 10:30 a.m. this morning for a report that a man had entered the store not wearing a mask. Callers reported that when the man was offered a mask, he confronted staff and was both verbally and physically confrontational.
When Patrol officers arrived, the man approached them in a threatening manner. He was arrested without further incident and transported to cells.
Officers are recommending charges including uttering threats and assault with a weapon. Officers also issued the man a $230 ticket under the CRMA for abusive or belligerent behavior.
Under the CRMA and provincial health orders, masks are required to be worn in public spaces, including grocery stores.
