Victoria, BC – Patrol officers took a drug-impaired driver off the road early this morning after he collided with a hydro pole.

Shortly before 4:30 a.m. this morning Patrol officers were called to the 400-block of Burnside Road for a report that a vehicle collided with a hydro pole. Officers attended but the driver and vehicle had left the scene.

BC Hydro Crews were called to assess and repair the damaged hydro pole.

Officers continued their investigation and followed leaking vehicle fluid from the collision site to the area of Harriet Road and Burnside Road East, where they located the damaged vehicle and driver from the collision. Based on the driver’s behaviour, officers suspected that he was impaired by drugs. Officers conducted a field sobriety test, after which the driver was served a 24-hour driving prohibition. In addition, the driver was served violation tickets for failing to remain at the scene of a collision, and a collision resulting in property damage.
