Victoria, BC – Patrol officers seized a handgun after executing a search warrant at a multi-unit temporary housing facility in Victoria last night. The suspect was arrested this afternoon during our #VicPDWarrantWednesday enforcement project.

Shortly before 7 p.m. on Tuesday, May 11th, Patrol officers, working with the Greater Victoria Emergency Response Team (GVERT), executed the search warrant on a suite in a multi-unit residential temporary housing facility in the 3000-block of Blanshard Street. Officers located a .32 calibre revolver in their search.

The occupant of the suite was not located at the time the warrant was executed. In addition to the firearms offences included in this incident, the man was wanted on outstanding warrants for possession of stolen property over $5,000, possession of break and enter instruments, breach of a release order, possession of identity documents, and drug-related offences.

Officers continued to search for the man. During today’s #VicPDWarrantWednesday warrant enforcement project, Patrol officers located the suspect in the 3000-block of Blanshard Street. The suspect attempted to flee from officers on a bicycle. However, officers gave chase on foot and took the man into custody after a brief struggle.

The man was transported to hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. He will be held in custody once medically cleared.
