Victoria, BC – We will be deploying temporary cameras in support of our operations to ensure public safety during planned demonstrations over the weekend.
Events are planned at the B.C. Legislature and surrounding areas. Several incidents have taken place during recent demonstrations in that area which have seen assaults and property damage. VicPD officers are working to ensure that everyone’s rights to safe, peaceful and lawful protest are protected.
As always, we are deploying these temporarily placed, monitored cameras in public spaces in accordance with B.C. and national privacy legislation. The cameras will be taken down a short time after the event. Temporary signs will also be posted to ensure that those in the area are aware.
