Victoria, BC – We will be deploying temporary cameras in support of our operations to ensure public safety during the Xe xe Smun’ eem-Victoria Orange Shirt Day: Every Child Matters Ceremony on Thursday.

Events are planned at Victoria’s Centennial Square to raise awareness about residential schools, and to honour the more than 6,000 children who died, and the sacrifices that were made by 150,000 residential school survivors and their families across Canada. More information about this event can be found on the City of Victoria’s event page.

The purpose of this deployment is to ensure that everyone who is attending this ceremony can do so knowing they are safe and protected.

As always, we are deploying these temporarily placed, monitored cameras in public spaces in accordance with B.C. and national privacy legislation. The cameras will be taken down a short time after the event. Temporary signs will also be posted to ensure that those in the area are aware.

If you have questions or concerns about our temporary CCTV camera deployment, please email: [email protected].
