Victoria, BC – Esquimalt Division Patrol officers are asking for your help as we work to locate two key witnesses and a suspect in an Esquimalt sexual assault.
On Wednesday, February 9th, at approximately 3:45 p.m. a man approached a 16 year-old girl from behind near the bus stop in the 1300-block of Esquimalt Road, scaring her. The girl walked away from the man. He then followed closely behind her while committing an indecent act. Two witnesses, a male and female, observed what was occurring and intervened. The male witness then chased the man. The man was last seen leaving the area on foot southbound on Admirals Road. The girl left the area immediately. She was not physically injured in the assault.
Investigators are looking to identify and speak with both the suspect and the male and female witnesses who intervened.
The suspect is described as a Caucasian man, approximately 60 years-old, standing five feet, nine inches to six feet tall. He wore a stubble-length beard and has a skinny build. At the time of the incident he was wearing dark clothes, including a dark hoodie, and was wearing a backpack.
The two witnesses who intervened are described as a male and female, both approximately 16 years-old. The male witness is described as Caucasian with curly brown hair and wearing a dark toque. The female witness is described as also approximately 16 years-old, Caucasian with a slim build and short brown hair. Both witnesses were wearing jeans and backpacks. Officers are hoping to speak with these two witnesses.
The incident was reported to VicPD on February 10th. Officers began the investigation immediately, which included a canvass for surveillance video. A portion of the incident was captured on video, but from a significant distance. Investigators were able to access the video on February 13th. This video has assisted with both the suspect and witness descriptions.
