Victoria, BC – Temporary, monitored CCTV cameras have been deployed as traffic disruptions are anticipated during a planned protest event in the B.C. Legislature area on Saturday, April 23rd, 2022.

We have deployed our temporary, monitored CCTV cameras in support of our operations to ensure public safety. This CCTV deployment is in keeping with provincial and federal privacy law. The cameras will be taken down a short time after the weekend’s events which also include the Times Colonist 10K marathon. Temporary signs are posted to ensure that those in the area are aware.

The protest group has informed officers that they plan a brief march during their event. Please follow our VicPDCanada Twitter account for the most up-to-date traffic information, which will include road closures and traffic disruptions. The planned protest event immediately precedes road closures required for preparation for the Times Colonist 10K, which occurs the following day. Officers will work to minimize disruptions as much as possible.

VicPD supports safe, peaceful and lawful protest. Dangerous and/or unlawful acts will be met with de-escalation and enforcement.

If you have questions or concerns about our temporary CCTV camera deployment, please email [email protected].
