Victoria, BC – VicPD officers arrested a man yesterday who reportedly broke into a vehicle and then assaulted an officer with a pry bar. He was later connected to other investigations including a break and enter to a coffee shop, and the theft of a bicycle.

Shortly after 8 a.m. on Thursday, May 26th, VicPD officers were called to a parkade in the 400-block of Belleville Street for a report of a man aggressively yelling at passersby. Officers received additional information that the man was observed breaking into a vehicle at that location.

Officers arrived on scene and searched for the suspect. As the officers searched the parkade they suddenly encountered the suspect. The man then stabbed at an officer with a pry bar and struck the officer in the hand. Officers took the suspect to the ground and arrested the man after a brief struggle. The officer who was struck by the pry bar suffered a cut to his hand which required medical attention, but he was able to complete his shift.

Officers searched the suspect subsequent to arrest and located a number of items that were recently stolen during a break and enter to a coffee shop in the 1800-block of Fairfield Road. The suspect was subsequently arrested for break and enter. The suspect was also in possession of a stolen bicycle which has since been returned to the owner.

Officers transported the suspect to VicPD cells where he was held to await a bail hearing. He faces recommended charges of assaulting a police officer with a weapon, mischief, possession of stolen property, and possession of break and enter instruments. The investigation into the break and enter at the coffee shop remains ongoing.

This file remains under investigation.
