Victoria, BC – Patrol officers located a loaded shotgun when they conducted a traffic stop as part of a road rage investigation early this morning.
Just after 2 a.m., Patrol officers located a vehicle in the 2900-block of Douglas Street which matched the description of a vehicle that had been involved in a road rage incident earlier the previous evening and had a partially obscured front license plate. Patrol officers conducted a traffic stop and learned the person driving the vehicle was prohibited from driving. As officers prepared to tow the vehicle, the driver became agitated, and insisted that officers allow a third person to drive the vehicle home.
The driver’s driving prohibition stemmed from a series of previous criminal convictions for a variety of offences, which include firearm offences. In addition to the driving prohibition, the driver also has an indefinite firearms possession ban.
Additional officers arrived and performed a security search of the vehicle in advance of it being towed. They located a loaded shotgun inside the vehicle during the search.

The driver was arrested and transported to cells and was later released pending further investigation.
The vehicle was towed.
