 Victoria, BC – VicPD Traffic officers are investigating a collision between a cyclist and a VicPD vehicle in Esquimalt this morning.

Just after 9:15 a.m. this morning a VicPD officer was responding to a call for service in the 900-block of Esquimalt Road. The officer parked their vehicle and opened the driver’s side door into the path of a cyclist who collided with the door.

The officer provided immediate medical aid and called for both BC Emergency Health Services paramedics and additional officers, including a supervisor, to attend. The cyclist suffered non-life-threatening injuries in the collision and was transported to hospital.

VicPD Traffic officers attended and documented the scene. They are continuing their investigation, with oversight from VicPD’s Professional Standards Section (PSS). This incident meets the standard of a reportable injury to the Office of the Police Complaint Commissioner (OPCC) which results in an automatic notification to the OPCC.
