Victoria, BC – Traffic will be disrupted and we are deploying temporary CCTV cameras in response to a protest and march planned for Saturday, February 25, 2023.

Officers with the Greater Victoria Public Safety Unit (GVPSU), along with VicPD officers and staff from various sections, are responding to a planned protest and march on Saturday. Traffic will be disrupted along Douglas Street from Centennial Square to the BC Legislature from approximately 12:30 pm to 1:30 pm for the marching portion of the protest event. VicPD Traffic officers will close Douglas Street during the march in order to keep everyone safe. Please avoid the area during this time.

As with previous events, we will be deploying our temporary, monitored CCTV cameras in support of our operations to ensure public safety during the protests. The deployment of these cameras is part of our operations to help keep Saturday’s events safe and peaceful and is in keeping with both provincial and federal privacy laws. Temporary signs are up in the area to ensure that the public is aware. The cameras will be taken down once the events have concluded. If you have concerns about our temporary camera deployment, please email [email protected].

VicPD supports everyone’s right to safe, peaceful and lawful protest. Dangerous or unlawful activity will be met with de-escalation and enforcement.
